PhD Student / Doctoral Candidate in Plant Ecology – Metal Hyperaccumulation

The Plant Ecology Group at the University of Tübingen is offering a PhD position as part of the French-German HYPERSAPCE project, funded by ANR-DFG and led by the University of Bordeaux. The project investigates the ecological and evolutionary consequences of metal hyperaccumulation in plants, focusing on why this trait has evolved in certain species and how it can be modified by abiotic and biotic stressors such as drought, herbivory, and competition. The successful candidate will design, conduct, and analyze greenhouse experiments with European metal hyperaccumulators, collaborating closely with consortium colleagues working at molecular and ecosystem levels. The position is for 36 months, with a salary at E13 TV-L 65%. Applicants should have an M.Sc. in ecology or a related field, strong skills in experimental design and analysis, excellent English communication abilities, and a collaborative, motivated attitude. The University of Tübingen is an international, vibrant academic environment committed to equity and diversity, actively encouraging applications from women and giving preference to disabled candidates. Applications should include a CV and motivation letter in a single PDF, sent to Prof. Dr. Katja Tielbörger, with two independent letters of reference sent before the deadline. The earliest start date is January 1st, 2026, and the application deadline is December 10th, 2025.
