Postdoctoral and Junior Research Fellow positions in Machine Learning Security and Data Poisoning Detection (Postdoc, Masters)
The National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), located on the Indian Institute of Science campus in Bengaluru, India, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate (RA-III) and a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) to work on a DRDO-funded project titled "Novel Methods for Detecting Data Poisoning Attacks on Machine Learning Models." The project focuses on developing innovative defense mechanisms to detect and mitigate data poisoning attacks in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems, including large language models (LLMs). These attacks can compromise the reliability, accuracy, and security of AI models, making this research critical for high-stakes applications such as healthcare, finance, and autonomous systems.
The Postdoctoral Associate position requires a Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related fields, with at least 3 years of research experience in computer science, particularly in cybersecurity, AI, and Machine Learning. Candidates should have a strong publication record in peer-reviewed international Scopus indexed journals, especially in the security of Machine Learning models. The fellowship for this position is INR 67,000 per month plus HRA.
The Junior Research Fellow position is open to candidates with a graduate or postgraduate degree in professional courses such as B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or related disciplines, or M.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Electronics, or related fields. Selection through national eligibility tests (CSIR-UGC NET or GATE) is required. Essential skills include proficiency in Python programming and knowledge of basic machine learning and deep learning algorithms/models. The fellowship for this position is INR 37,000 per month plus HRA.
Both positions are initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project requirements. The project is funded by the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), Government of India, and offers a stimulating research environment at NIAS, which is known for its multidisciplinary approach and vibrant academic community.
To apply, candidates should submit a single PDF document containing a cover letter (with the latest CV), a statement of purpose (less than 2 pages), copies of degree certificates, and GATE/NET qualification certificates (for JRF applicants). Postdoctoral applicants should also include PDF copies of at least two publications or writing samples and provide the names, addresses, and email IDs of two referees. Applications should be addressed to Prof. Nithin Nagaraj, Head of the NIAS Complex Systems Programme, and sent via email to [email protected] with the subject line 'NIAS-DRDO project position'. The application deadline is March 10, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for presentation and/or interview.
