PhD Positions in Aluminium Extrusion and Forming at Norwegian University of Science and Technology

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is offering two PhD positions in aluminium extrusion and forming, funded through the Centre for Research-based Innovation SFI FAST – Future Aluminium Structures. These positions are part of a major research initiative aimed at advancing knowledge and technology for next-generation aluminium product innovations, with a strong focus on sustainability and the use of recycled aluminium in advanced applications. SFI FAST brings together leading expertise from NTNU, SINTEF, and 16 international industrial partners, forming an interdisciplinary platform for research and innovation. The centre's mission is to develop solutions that enable the use of up to 100% recycled aluminium in load-bearing structures such as automotive components, power transmission lines, and bridges, without compromising strength, durability, or safety. This research is crucial for reducing CO₂ emissions and increasing value creation in Norwegian and international industry. The PhD candidates will be embedded in the forming research activities of SFI FAST, working closely with academic and industrial partners. The positions are fully funded for three years and offer an excellent opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in mechanical engineering, materials science, and industrial engineering. Candidates will benefit from a collaborative environment and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Applicants should have a strong background in mechanical engineering, materials science, industrial engineering, or a related field. Experience with aluminium processing, forming, or recycling is highly desirable. Proficiency in English and a solid academic record are required.
