Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering

RMIT University, in partnership with the Sir Lawrence Wackett Defence & Aerospace Centre and Defence Science and Technology Group, is offering a fully funded PhD opportunity in Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering. The project is part of the Applied AI and Digital Innovation for Defence and Aerospace Applications program, designed to deliver cutting-edge research in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI for defence and aerospace sectors. The program is co-funded by CSIRO's Next Generation Graduate Program (NGGP) and includes participation in a national training program, industry placements, and collaboration with leading industry partners. The scholarship provides a generous stipend of approximately $55,000 per annum, with additional allowances for training and travel. Tuition fees are covered for domestic students. Applicants must be Australian citizens eligible for Defence security clearance and have a strong background in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, or Aerospace. Demonstrated interest in NLP, LLMs, or applied AI for Defence and Aerospace is preferred. The program offers exposure to interdisciplinary research, industry experience, and the opportunity to work at the intersection of academia, government, and industry. Applications are open until all places are filled, with enrolment required by 31 December 2025. Interested candidates should apply by sending a covering letter and CV to Professor Pier Marzocca at RMIT University.
