ERC LawAtWork PhD Scholarship – The Rule of Law at Work: Breach of Workers' Rights and Public Faith in the Rule of Law

The University of Glasgow's College of Social Sciences is offering the ERC LawAtWork PhD Scholarship for research on 'The Rule of Law at Work: Breach of Workers' Rights and Public Faith in the Rule of Law.' This project investigates the hypothesis that breaches of employment law may be more difficult to detect, remedy, and prevent when artificial intelligence and other novel technologies are used in recruitment, management, and monitoring of workers. The research will explore the intersection of law, technology, and human resource management, focusing on how technological advancements impact workers' rights and public trust in legal protections. Supervised by Professor R Dukes and Dr. EK Kirk, the successful candidate will join a vibrant research community within the College of Social Sciences. The project is interdisciplinary, drawing on contract law, socioeconomics, and human resource management to address critical questions about the future of work and the rule of law. The scholarship is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), covering full tuition fees and providing a stipend for living expenses. Applicants should have a strong academic background in law, social sciences, or a related discipline, with demonstrated research skills and a keen interest in employment law, technology, and socioeconomics. English language proficiency must meet the University of Glasgow's requirements. The application deadline is 16 March 2026. To apply, candidates should submit an online application through the University of Glasgow portal, including a research proposal, personal statement, academic transcripts, and references. This opportunity is ideal for students passionate about legal research, technology's impact on the workplace, and advancing workers' rights in a changing world.
