Postdoctoral Researcher in Cybersecurity for Maritime Infrastructure at Tilburg University

Tilburg University’s School of Humanities and Digital Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Cybersecurity to join the Department of Intelligent Systems. The position is part of the NEPTARGOS project, which aims to enhance cyber risk management for North Sea maritime infrastructure using AI-enabled, human-centred, and data-driven cyber-physical threat intelligence. The research is interdisciplinary, integrating network science, game theory, law, data engineering, artificial intelligence, governance, organization sciences, and serious gaming to develop effective defense and resilience models for adversarial attacks on maritime infrastructure. The postdoc will design and implement a Security and Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) module, simulate adversarial attacks against cyber-physical systems with AI-generated scenarios, implement threat modeling techniques, and create a Vulnerability Assessment Toolkit (VAST) to guide recovery and recommend mitigation strategies. The role also involves supervising an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) candidate at JADS, collaborating with the Netherlands Defence Academy and Eindhoven University of Technology. Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, or a related field, with experience in cybersecurity (especially cyber-physical systems), vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, adversarial attack analysis, and strong programming skills. Advanced skills in AI-driven attack/defense strategies, technical report writing, and toolkit documentation are preferred. Good scientific communication skills are essential. A VGB screening is required as part of the selection process. The position is fully funded for 24 months, with a gross monthly salary between €3,546 and €5,538, plus benefits such as vacation pay, year-end bonus, over 8 weeks of vacation, hybrid working options, commuting reimbursement, pension, moving allowance, and the 30% rule for international employees if applicable. Tilburg University offers an inclusive and supportive work environment focused on innovation and digital resilience. To apply, submit a motivation letter and CV online before January 31, 2026. For more information, contact Prof. Dr. Ir. Roy Lindelauf or Dr. Giuseppe Cascavilla. The position is based in the Netherlands, and the university encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
