An exciting PhD position is available at Université Côte d’Azur, CNRS, Inria, and I3S in France, focusing on "Argument Mining on Scientific Publications" within the CRITICS project (ERA-NET CHIST-ERA). The project aims to enhance science accessibility and literacy by leveraging advanced Machine Translation based on Large Language Models (LLMs) and educational technology, particularly in multilingual contexts. The successful candidate will join the MARIANNE research team, which specializes in argument mining, argumentation-based reasoning, counter-argument generation, and argumentation quality. The team is part of Université Côte d’Azur, Inria, and CNRS, and is known for its interdisciplinary approach, integrating computer science, linguistics, philosophy, sociology, and law. Research topics include argument mining, argument and counter-argument generation, argument quality assessment, explainable AI, and applications in political debates, healthcare, law, and social media. The position requires a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, or Computational Linguistics. Applicants should have strong programming skills and fluency in English. Knowledge of Natural Language Processing and Argumentation is preferred, and French language skills are appreciated but not mandatory. Application materials include a CV, motivation letter, academic transcripts, and at least one letter of recommendation.
