Postdoctoral Fellow Positions in Recycling Plastic Waste at Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC)
This postdoctoral opportunity at the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC), Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), offers two positions focused on developing innovative recycling technologies for plastic waste. The project is a collaboration between UM6P and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), aiming to advance sustainable physical and chemical pathways for plastic recycling. Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team working on polymer processing, synthesis, characterization, and the development of advanced biobased products and materials. The research center emphasizes biotechnological, physical, and chemical conversion strategies, engineering processes, and the understanding of structure-property relationships across multiple scales.
Key responsibilities include hands-on polymer processing and recycling, rigorous testing of designed systems, collaboration with chemists, polymer specialists, and engineers, maintaining detailed experimental records, drafting technical reports and research papers, and contributing to proposal writing and external funding efforts. Candidates will also supervise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students and may travel abroad for short work assignments.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, polymer science, materials science and engineering, or related fields. Required skills include experience in polymer materials, analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques, strong organizational and communication abilities, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The working language is English.
UM6P is located in Benguerir, Morocco, and is recognized for its international standards, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and commitment to advancing applied research and innovation for Morocco and Africa. SusMaT-RC is dedicated to addressing technological challenges and supporting the transition to a green and circular economy through its research activities.
To apply, candidates should submit a CV, two letters of recommendation, and a one-page statement outlining their suitability and interest in the role.
