Doctoral Fellow in Statistical Modeling and Data Analysis – Department of Data-Analysis

Ghent University’s Department of Data-Analysis is offering a full-time doctoral fellowship focused on advancing statistical modeling techniques for complex data relationships. The project aims to develop innovative methods for analyzing constructs such as attitudes, abilities, and behaviors—especially those that cannot be directly observed—by integrating latent variables and composites within a unified statistical framework. This research will address current limitations in combining these constructs, improve measurement error handling, and account for group differences, ultimately enhancing the accuracy and applicability of statistical models in social and behavioral sciences. The successful candidate will join the structural equation modeling (SEM) research group led by Professor Dr. Yves Rosseel and collaborate with Dr. Tamara Schamberger from Bielefeld University. The group is internationally recognized for its contributions to SEM and the development of the open-source R package lavaan , which will be a central tool in this project. The position is funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO Vlaanderen) and offers a supportive, research-driven environment with opportunities to attend international conferences, publish in high-profile journals, and visit leading research institutes. Eligibility requires a Master’s degree with strong expertise in statistics, data analysis, and scientific programming. Candidates should demonstrate affinity with psychology and psychometrics, possess excellent English communication and writing skills, and be able to work both independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in R is essential, and familiarity with structural equation modeling and the lavaan package is highly desirable. The fellowship is initially for 12 months, extendable up to 48 months upon positive evaluation, with a competitive, tax-free salary determined by family status and seniority. Ghent University provides additional benefits, including extensive training opportunities, generous holiday leave, and eco-friendly incentives. Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2026. Interested candidates should send their CV, diploma copy, and motivation letter to both supervisors. The selection process includes shortlisting based on application materials and interviews for shortlisted candidates. Ghent University encourages applications from all backgrounds, maintaining a strong commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. For further information, applicants may contact Prof. Dr. Yves Rosseel or Dr. Tamara Schamberger via the provided email addresses. Reference to the project’s foundational paper is available at arXiv:2508.06112 . Apply online or via the provided emails before the deadline to be considered for this exciting research opportunity in advanced statistical modeling.
