About this position

The University of Queensland (UQ) is announcing its future international PhD scholarship round for biomedical engineering, with applications opening November 2025 and closing January 2026 for PhDs starting mid-2026. The opportunity is supported by the Graduate School Scholarships (UQGSS), which include the Research Training Program (RTP). These scholarships are open to both domestic and international students and provide a generous living stipend of $36,400 per annum (2025 rate, tax free), indexed annually, as well as single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and tuition fee coverage. The scholarship duration is 3.5 years, with the possibility of a one-time extension.

Applicants must be nominated by a UQ school or institute and meet all conditions for admission to the higher degree by research program. Selection is based on academic performance, research capability, quality of the research project, and the strength of the advisory team. Candidates must not be receiving another living allowance award or scholarship that exceeds 75% of the RTP rate. The application process involves submitting an expression of interest (EOI) for the preferred program, identifying a supervisor, and preparing relevant documentation.

Pending academic results can be submitted later. The scholarship round for international applicants opens November 3, 2025, with EOIs due by December 15, 2025, and final applications by January 30, 2026. For domestic applicants, the round opens January 19, 2026, with EOIs due by February 16, 2026. Offers are sent in April or June, depending on the round.
