About this position

The Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) invites applications for a fully funded 3-year PhD scholarship in Environmental Radioactivity, Chemistry, and Ecotoxicology. This position is part of a collaborative project funded by the Research Council of Norway through the Norwegian Nuclear Research Centre (NNRC), involving leading Norwegian research institutions such as the University of Oslo, NMBU, and the Institute for Energy Technology.

The research aims to advance understanding of radionuclide behavior in the environment, focusing on their transfer and bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms under exposure to multiple chemical stressors. The project will experimentally evaluate the role of speciation, bioavailability, and toxicokinetics during combined exposures, and assess interactions between radionuclides and other contaminants. Main tasks include conducting exposure experiments, performing speciation and bioavailability studies, chemical analysis of environmental samples, and assessing toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic effects. The candidate will organize and analyze data, and disseminate research findings.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team with a strong international network and will collaborate closely with NNRC partners. The position offers a salary of 550,800 NOK per year and is based at NMBU in Ås, Norway. Admission to the NMBU PhD program is a prerequisite for appointment.

Applicants must hold a relevant master’s degree in environmental sciences, chemistry (including radiochemistry and nuclear chemistry), ecotoxicology, or a related field. Emphasis is placed on experience with environmental radioactivity, environmental chemistry, aquatic organism studies, in situ fractionation, bioavailability assessment, speciation modelling, toxicokinetic assessments, and radioanalytical techniques. Competence in statistics is required. Candidates lacking experience with ionizing radiation must complete a radiation protection course at NMBU. Strong motivation, collaboration skills, independence, and proficiency in English (and preferably a Scandinavian language) are essential. Documentation of English proficiency is required.

To apply, submit your application electronically via the provided link, including a motivation letter, CV (entered in Jobbnorge's CV form), certified copies of diplomas and transcripts (with English translations if necessary), and proof of English proficiency. Additional documentation of professional knowledge may be included. The application deadline is 20 April 2026.
