Deakin University is offering two domestic PhD scholarships to join the Tackling Hate Lab, led by Associate Professor Matteo Vergani. The lab focuses on research into hate and extremism, particularly online phenomena such as anti-transgender, anti-African, anti-immigrant, and anti-women hate, as well as the spread and dynamics of extremist content and decentralised networks. Projects may address interventions to prevent or reduce online hate, understand the spread of extremist content, and explore emerging forms of online extremism. The lab values candidates with quantitative skills, computational social science expertise, and an interest in AI and data science. Creative and mixed methods approaches are encouraged.
