About this position

The Control, Optimization, and Online Learning (COOL) for Autonomy Lab at the University of Texas at Austin is recruiting multiple PhD students and one postdoc to join in Spring or Fall 2026. The lab, led by Assistant Professor Thinh T. Doan, is part of the Department of Aerospace Engineering and focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of learning, control, and optimization for real-time decision-making in autonomous multi-agent systems.

Research areas include online learning and control for real-time decision-making, and distributed optimization for multi-agent autonomy. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in control theory, optimization, and/or machine learning, as well as solid mathematical skills. The lab is highly collaborative and works on projects such as reinforcement learning for safe and robust control in multi-robot systems, and has received support from NSF, AFOSR, and UT Portugal.

To apply, candidates should email their CV, transcripts, and a few paragraphs about their current and proposed research to [email protected]. The application window is open for Spring/Fall 2026. For more information, visit the lab website.

Funding details are not specified in the announcement.

What's required
