About this position

The University of Primorska is seeking a highly qualified analytical chemist to join the Materials research group at the InnoRenew CoE, now part of the Andrej Marušič Institute. This full-time, fixed-term (12 months) position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge European research projects focused on the design, development, and testing of next-generation functional materials with improved properties, sustainability, and extended lifespan. The successful candidate will contribute to projects such as ERC CoG ARCHI-SKIN, EIC REMEDY, and HE NEB MISS BIOARC, all of which support the use of renewable materials in the built environment.

The role involves independent research, method development, and the operation and maintenance of advanced analytical instruments including GC-MS, LC-MS, TGA, and FTIR. The candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing analytical methods, ensuring compliance with GLP/GMP and other regulatory standards, and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. Additional duties include publishing research findings, participating in scientific consultations, and maintaining professional contacts with both domestic and international scientific institutions.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field, and have at least one year of relevant work experience. Technical proficiency in GC-MS, LC-MS, TGA, and FTIR is essential, as is experience with sample preparation, method development, and data interpretation. Candidates should possess strong computer and organizational skills, be able to work both independently and as part of a team, and have active knowledge of a major world language. Eligibility for the academic title of Assistant with a PhD at the University of Primorska is required.

The position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment, flexible working hours, access to state-of-the-art research equipment, and opportunities for professional development, including training and conference attendance. The contract includes a three-month probationary period and may be extended based on performance and funding.

To apply, candidates should submit a CV and motivation letter (maximum one A4 page) in PDF format to [email protected] with the subject line 'Analytical Chemist / Instrument Specialist'. For further information, contact [email protected] or Assoc. prof. dr. Anna Sandak at [email protected]. The application deadline is December 15, 2025, and the expected start date is January 2026.
