This PhD project at Cardiff University, based in the Cardiff School of Psychology, focuses on developing biosecure pig-rearing practices in Assam by integrating ecological, human behavioural, and socio-cultural approaches to control African Swine Fever. The research aims to address the complex interplay between animal health, human behaviour, and local cultural practices to design effective disease control strategies. The project is part of a competitive funding process through the SWBiosciences Doctoral Training Partnership, and funding will be awarded to the strongest candidates. Students will have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment, drawing on expertise from biology, psychology, veterinary science, and environmental science. The project will involve fieldwork, data collection, and analysis related to pig-rearing practices, disease transmission, and the socio-cultural context of animal husbandry in Assam.
