About this position

I'm hashtag#hiring! Two PhD opportunities at Oregon State University. Are you passionate about addressing real-world environmental challenges? Join my research group in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University for an exciting opportunity to advance solutions in contaminant transport and groundwater management. The PhD positions aim to solve critical issues in contaminant transport and groundwater management by focusing on studying how fluids mix and arsenic remediation in geological media.Position 1 -- Fluid MixingYou will work with 3D-printed soil and rock structures, using cutting-edge tools like x-ray synchrotron microtomography and 3D printing to visualize and quantify how different geological features influence fluid mixing and solute transport. In addition to hands-on lab experiments, you will use computational fluid dynamics and reactive transport modeling to simulate real-world conditions, providing insights that will improve how we predict and manage water resources and contaminant transport.Position 2 -- Arsenic RemediationYou will work on the development and optimization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to remove arsenic from contaminated groundwater.By using novel lab techniques, you will synthesize and test MOFs to assess their effectiveness in adsorbing arsenic under different environmental conditions. In addition to lab experiments, you will develop advanced modeling tools to simulate and optimize arsenic removal systems for real-world applications that will contribute to improving water quality and ensuring environmental sustainability. We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a background in geology, physics, mathematics, or engineering field (civil, environmental, chemical, geological, petroleum, etc.), or related fields. Experience or interest in areas such as groundwater hydrology, reactive transport, geochemistry, numerical modeling, or image analysis is highly valued.Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Lazaro Perez ([email protected]) via email with the following information: (1) A one-page cover letter describing the student's experience and interest in the position.(2) Detailed curriculum vitae.(3) Copies of transcripts.hashtag#phd hashtag#job hashtag#oregon hashtag#oregonstate hashtag#oregonstateuniversity hashtag#hydrology hashtag#opportunity hashtag#graduate…more
