About this position
The project:
Stablecoins play a important role in DeFi, yet maintaining stability without central control is challenging. This project would investigate various decentralized stablecoin mechanisms, such as algorithmic and collateral-backed models, and their effectiveness in maintaining a stable value. The study could involve designing simulations to test each model’s resilience under different market conditions, including extreme volatility. Techniques from machine learning and economics could be used to analyze stability mechanisms and propose improvements. This project aims to contribute to the development of more robust stablecoin designs that can withstand market fluctuations and drive broader DeFi adoption. The candidate would ideally have an interest in mechanism design, economics, and coding, bringing theoretical and practical solutions to one of DeFi’s most critical components.
Candidate requirements:
Applicants must hold/achieve a minimum of a merit at master’s degree level (or international equivalent) in a science, mathematics or engineering discipline. Applicants without a master's qualification may be considered on an exceptional basis, provided they hold a first-class undergraduate degree. Please note, acceptance will also depend on evidence of readiness to pursue a research degree.
