About this position
The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is offering full-time PhD positions in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with a focus on Extended Reality (XR) for education and industry. These positions are part of the EU-funded ARISE project, which aims to advance cultural innovation in Europe by training specialists in HCI and XR. The project includes the development of a double-degree master’s programme and a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, providing a unique opportunity for doctoral students to contribute to curriculum development and research in cutting-edge XR technologies.
As a doctoral student, you will join a dynamic research group and collaborate internationally to create and evaluate diverse XR experiences for educational and industrial contexts. Your research will be expected to result in open-access publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals. The position also offers the chance to develop project management skills within international projects, enhancing your professional profile.
Supervision will be provided by Professor Jan Gulliksen and Assistant Professor Andrii Matviienko, both experts in HCI and XR. The research environment at KTH is highly creative and supportive, with a strong emphasis on equality, diversity, and sustainability. You will benefit from attractive working conditions, employee benefits, and a monthly salary according to KTH’s doctoral student salary agreement.
Eligibility requires a second cycle degree (such as a master’s) or equivalent, with mandatory English proficiency (English B/6). Ideal candidates have a background in Computer Science, experience in HCI, XR, experiment design, statistical analysis, programming, basic AI, and mixed reality application development. Personal qualities such as goal orientation, perseverance, independence, collaboration, and professional approach are highly valued. Experience in educational development and interdisciplinary teamwork is advantageous.
The position is full-time for up to four years, with the possibility of renewal. Security clearance may be required for certain roles.
