I am currently recruiting a highly motivated PhD researcher to join my Industrial Systems Intelligence Lab at London South Bank University. This opportunity is offered under the LSBU Chancellor’s Scholarships scheme, which provides a full tuition fee waiver for four years, including the writing-up year.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of an AI-driven digital twin framework for real-time defect detection in Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) additive manufacturing. The research will involve deep learning, high-resolution process monitoring, and adaptive feedback control to optimise 3D print quality during production. This work will also be aligned with an ongoing EU Horizon project focusing on hybrid manufacturing robotic workstations equipped with advanced control and AI capabilities.

Candidate Profile:
• A strong academic background in machine learning, deep learning, or computer vision
• Proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Interest in smart manufacturing, digital twins, or FDM-based additive manufacturing technologies
• Open to both UK and international applicants
