The research group has developed advanced powder formulations suitable for pulmonary delivery, demonstrating that several antibiotics used in chronic lung infection can be successfully encapsulated. The project aims to evaluate the activity of nanoparticle-encapsulated antibiotics using both planktonic and biofilm models of infection, with formulation studies to optimize antimicrobial efficacy. The work is aligned with ongoing research in the group and is expected to contribute to significant publications, highlighting the potential of liposomal delivery to enhance antibiotic effectiveness in respiratory disease management.

Extensive training will be provided in nanoparticle manufacture, physicochemical characterization, and microbiological assessment of antibiotic products, including thermal stability and activity.
