About this position
Our current cryo-TEM findings show that: Protein-fibers & Protein sheets are generated from doubly His-tagged proteins + metals. This phenomenon was demonstrated with 2 unrelated proteins (Ubiquitin & Cas9) that differ greatly in their molecular weight and biological function. The transformation from a protein monomer into a fiber or a sheet is (a) simple-to-implement (b) performed at pH 7 and (c) preserves the protein native conformation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the 1st demonstration showing such a capability and we now devote efforts to visualizing the assembly process with a doubly His-tagged fluorescent protein. Therefore, we aim at recruiting students who are experienced in protein expression that wish to take part in introducing a potentially new class of supramolecular-biomaterials with diverse medicinal applications.
