Description

The McGill Electron Microscopy Research Group, in partnership with Hydro-Québec, is offering four PhD and Master's projects focused on Li-ion battery and steel materials. Under the supervision of Prof. Raynald Gauvin, students will engage in innovative research involving 3D reconstruction imaging using CT-scan, X-ray imaging, and high-resolution mapping with FIB. The projects also include the development of characterization methods for residual austenite and interfaces in martensitic steels using advanced electron microscopy techniques such as HR-EBSD, STEM, and FIB. Students will join a dynamic research environment, collaborating with Hydro-Québec and benefiting from internationally recognized expertise in electron microscopy and materials characterization. The research group offers high-level scientific supervision, access to state-of-the-art research equipment at McGill and IREQ, and the opportunity to contribute to projects with significant industrial and societal impact. Applicants should have a background in materials or mechanical engineering, physics, computational sciences, or related fields. A strong interest in applied and experimental research, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team, is essential. Competitive funding and scholarships are available, though specific financial details are not provided. The position is based in Montreal, Quebec, with a flexible start date. To apply, send your CV and a motivation letter to [email protected]. For more information, refer to the provided LinkedIn links or contact the research group directly.
