About this position

Exciting PhD and postdoctoral positions are available at the Medical Faculty, University of Geneva, focusing on bioinformatics, microbiota, metabolism, and cancer. The research group, led by Professor Mirko Trajkovski and co-advised by Professor Evgeny Zdobnov, investigates molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases such as obesity, insulin resistance, and cancer. Projects utilize state-of-the-art technologies, in vivo models, and bioinformatics analysis of human cohorts, aiming to develop strategies for diagnostics and treatment of cancer, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and obesity. Machine learning and metagenomic sequencing are emphasized for data analysis linking microbiome composition to disease progression.

Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary translational research group with opportunities for national and international collaborations. The University of Geneva offers a stimulating intellectual environment and a competitive salary. Candidates should have a background in bioinformatics or biology, with practical experience in Unix environments and programming skills. Previous research experience and an interest in understanding disease mechanisms are preferred. Applicants must hold a Diploma or MSc degree in Bioinformatics or Biology.

To apply, candidates should send a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references as a single file to Professor Mirko Trajkovski. The application deadline is December 1, 2025. For further reading, the group’s publications include work in Cell, Nature, Cell Metabolism, PLOS Computational Biology, BMC Bioinformatics, and Cell Host Microbe.
