Ghent University invites applications for a PhD Assistant position in the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication, with a focus on Russian language and related fields. This opportunity is embedded within the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy and the TRACE research group, offering a vibrant academic environment for doctoral research and teaching. At least 50% of the appointment is dedicated to academic research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation, with the subject matter aligned to the TRACE research group’s scope. The successful candidate will also assist in teaching activities, particularly Russian language courses, and contribute to internal and external departmental services.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Translation, Interpreting, Multilingual Communication, East European Languages and Cultures, or an equivalent qualification with Russian. The degree requirement must be fulfilled at the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in academic research and a clear understanding of the doctoral trajectory. Preference is given to those who have written a master’s thesis focused on the Russian-speaking world. Teaching experience, participation in extra training or conferences, and excellent teaching and communication skills are highly valued. Proficiency at C1 level in Russian (CEFR) and C1+ in Dutch (CEFR) is mandatory.

The position offers a two-year appointment, renewable twice for two years, subject to positive evaluation, with a maximum term of six years according to the Codex of Higher Education.
