About this position

The IMCBio Graduate School at the University of Strasbourg is now accepting applications for its 2026 PhD fellowships. This prestigious program offers two highlighted PhD projects in the lab of 'Muscle and diseases' within the Translational Medicine and Neurogenetics department at IGBMC. The projects are: (1) Deciphering the pathomechanisms and developing therapeutic approaches for neuromuscular disorders, and (2) Genetic determinants of outstanding athletic performance. These projects are part of a broader initiative to attract talented students to innovative research in molecular and cellular biology.

The IMCBio program is supported by five leading research institutes, including IGBMC, and covers a wide range of topics such as gene regulation, nuclear organization, epigenetics, transcriptional and translational events, and cell-to-cell communication. Students benefit from interdisciplinary training, access to advanced technology platforms, and collaboration opportunities within four research clusters: Integrative Biology, Mitochondria-nucleus Cross-talk, Regulatory RNA Networks, and Functional Genomics of Liver Disease.

Applicants should hold or expect to receive a Master 2 (M2) or equivalent degree by 2026 and demonstrate strong motivation, scientific independence, curiosity, critical thinking, and teamwork. Excellent English communication skills and an explicit interest in molecular mechanisms are required. Both French and international students are encouraged to apply.

PhD fellowships are fully funded, providing a stipend and access to outstanding research facilities. The number of fellowships is limited and awarded based on applicant ranking and merit. The application window opens November 24, 2025, with registration required by January 18, 2026, and final application submission by January 25, 2026. Candidates may select up to three projects of interest and can contact project PIs for more information.
