PhD in Adaptive Labour Market Futures for the Built Environment, Energy and Digital Transition Eindhoven University of Technology in Netherlands

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is recruiting a PhD candidate for the project "Adaptive Labour Market Futures for the Built Environment Energy and Digital Transition," as part of the NWO-funded FUTURED programme. The position is hosted in the Information Systems in the Built Environment (ISBE) group and involves collaboration with TU Delft, University of Twente, and Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. The research focuses on developing long-term labour market scenarios and future-making approaches to understand the impact of digitalisation, the energy transition, and structural uncertainties on jobs, skills, and workforce needs in the built environment towards 2050.

The PhD candidate will contribute to scenario planning, stakeholder co-creation, and the development of a scenario-based serious game to support strategic workforce planning. The role includes both qualitative and quantitative labour market analyses, engagement with stakeholders in regional case studies, and collaboration across the FUTURED consortium. The research intersects foresight, labour economics, computational analysis, and interactive design, aiming to strengthen workforce resilience and urban resilience under the twin transitions of digitalisation and energy.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Innovation Sciences, Labour Economics, Public Policy, Built Environment, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Data Science, or a related field. Experience with scenario analysis, foresight methods, and system-level analysis is required, as is fluency in English and Dutch. Familiarity with computational methods (e.g., NLP, Python/R) and interest in serious games or participatory research methods are advantageous. The position offers a four-year contract, a competitive salary (€3,059 - €3,881 per month), and comprehensive benefits including bonuses, training, and support for international candidates.
