About this position
Lund University, one of the world's top universities, is offering a fully funded PhD position in Computer Science with a focus on Sensor Fusion for Multi-task Learning. The position is based at the Division for Robotics and Semantic Systems (RSS), Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering (LTH), in Lund, Sweden. The research group specializes in Robotics, AI, Intelligent Autonomous Systems, Robot Learning, Machine Learning, Human-Robot Interaction, and Natural Language Processing, and collaborates nationally and internationally with both academic and industrial partners.
The PhD project, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Eren E. Aksoy (Lund University) and in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Gustaf Hendeby (Linköping University), aims to develop advanced AI methods for multi-modal sensor fusion (e.g., combining 2D RGB images and 3D point clouds) to optimize perception tasks such as object detection and semantic segmentation. The research targets reliable robot situational awareness in adverse environments, contributing to the next generation of intelligent autonomous systems.
Applicants should have a strong background in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields, with excellent mathematical and programming skills. Experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and preferably robot perception or sensor fusion is required. Familiarity with tools such as ROS/ROS2 and PyTorch is an advantage. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently, solve research problems, communicate effectively in English, and collaborate within a diverse research environment.
The position is a full-time, fixed-term employment for four years, with a monthly salary and full social benefits, including pension and generous annual leave. The role may include up to 20% teaching or departmental duties, with corresponding extension of the contract. The PhD student will have opportunities for travel to conferences and project meetings, and will participate in the annual ELLIIT Workshop. The start date is as soon as possible, but no later than December 15, 2026.
To apply, submit your application in English via the Lund University job portal, including a CV, cover letter, degree certificates, transcripts, and any other supporting documents. The deadline for applications is March 6, 2026. For more information, contact Assoc. Prof. Eren E. Aksoy at [email protected].
