Multiple PhD positions are available at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in the areas of Medical Robotics, Medical Image Guided Procedures, Embodied AI, and Multimodal Perception & Applications. The research focuses on advanced topics such as Embodied AI-assisted endoscopic diagnosis, biorobotics, intelligent systems, multisensory perception, AI learning and control in image-guided procedures, medical mechatronics, continuum and soft flexible robots and sensors, deployable motion generation, compliance modulation/sensing, and cooperative and context-aware flexible/soft sensors/actuators in human environments.
Successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary team that includes clinicians and researchers from robotics, AI, perception, imaging, and medicine. The lab, led by Prof. Hongliang Ren, is recognized for its cutting-edge research and recent publications, which can be found on their lab website.
Eligibility: Applicants should have a strong background in robotics, Embodied AI, Computer Science/Engineering, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, medical physics, automation, or mechatronics, with a minimum GPA of 3.6/4. Preferred candidates will have hands-on experience in Embodied AI, robots, sensors, instrumentation, intelligent systems, magnetic actuation, ROS, and robotic control. Strong problem-solving, writing, programming, interpersonal, and analytical skills are essential. Outstanding academic records, publications in top-tier journals/conferences, or recognition from top-ranking institutes are highly valued. Self-motivation and a strong academic track record are preferred.
