About this position

The University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Science, Institute of Physics, Quantum Gases & Quantum Information group is offering a PhD position focused on quantum simulation with RbSr ground-state molecules. The successful candidate will join the Strontium Quantum Gases Group, part of the QG&QI, and work on cutting-edge research involving ultracold RbSr mixtures, the formation of ground-state molecules, and the use of optical lattices and tweezers for dimensionality reduction. The project is embedded in the ultracold atom part of the QDNL programme, with close collaboration with strontium BEC and hybrid atom-ion groups.

Key research areas include quantum simulation, ultracold atoms, quantum gases, quantum information, and many-body physics. The PhD student will conduct novel ultracold atom experiments, apply optical adiabatic state-transfer techniques, analyze the effects of dimensionality reduction and interactions in RbSr mixtures, and collaborate with team members across quantum simulation projects. Additional responsibilities include assisting in teaching undergraduates and master students and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals.

The position offers a salary of €3,059 – €3,881 per month, plus an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
