The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) is inviting applications for a three-year, full-time PhD position as part of the Research Council of Norway–funded project 'Knowledge for reconciliation: Truth and contestation in the aftermath of the Norwegian truth and reconciliation commission (RECON)'. This project, led by Research Professor Inger Skjelsbæk, investigates the role of truth and reconciliation commissions (TRCs) in fostering reconciliation in liberal states with histories of settler colonialism, focusing on the Norwegian TRC case in the South Saami area.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary, and international research environment at PRIO in Oslo. The doctoral research will be closely aligned with the project's objectives, examining how the dissemination of knowledge about past and ongoing injustices affects reconciliation processes. The position is particularly suitable for candidates with backgrounds in social sciences, such as psychology, pedagogy, sociology, or related disciplines.

A key requirement is the ability to conduct qualitative fieldwork, including in-depth interviews and/or focus group discussions, in the Norwegian part of the South Saami area during the first year of the PhD. The candidate will work independently but in close dialogue with the project team, contributing to the broader understanding of reconciliation and truth processes in Norway.

The position is fully funded for three years, supported by the Research Council of Norway.
