Freie Universität Berlin is offering a PhD research assistant (praedoc) position in the Department of Economics, focusing on labor economics, international economics, political economy, migration economics, and economic policy. The successful candidate will join the team led by Prof. Dr. Max Steinhardt and contribute to the DFG research group “Labor Market Transformation,” with research topics including determinants of immigration and trade policy in the United States and the long-term effects of cultural and ethnic diversity on economic behavior. The position is part-time (50%, salary grade 13 TV-L FU) for up to 4 years, with a possible increase to 75% depending on third-party funding. The role includes both research and teaching responsibilities, as well as participation in acquiring and conducting sponsored research projects.

Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in economics. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of empirical economic research and econometrics, and an interest in political economy, migration economics, gender economics, North American economic policy, and/or economic history. Excellent English language skills (C1 or above) are required. The position is designed for candidates aiming to obtain a doctoral degree in economics at Freie Universität Berlin.
