This PhD position at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg focuses on the application of information field theory to coherent phase contrast imaging, with a particular emphasis on ptychography at synchrotron facilities. Ptychography is a cutting-edge super resolution phase retrieval imaging technique, capable of achieving resolutions down to single-digit nanometres. The project aims to leverage the emerging framework of information field theory to theoretically evaluate the impact of experimental parameters such as degree of coherence, photon flux, and probe shape on ptychographic image quality. The research will involve both theoretical modeling and practical validation through experiments conducted at the P06 beamline at the Petra III Synchrotron facility. The successful candidate will be expected to apply information field theory to assess and optimize experimental parameters, perform hands-on experiments at synchrotron beamlines, and investigate the quantification of information in ptychography data.
