Description

Télécom Paris, a top engineering school and member of Institut Mines-Télécom and Institut Polytechnique de Paris, is recruiting two postdoctoral fellows for a 12-month ERC-funded project in nonlinear optical fiber communication. The successful candidates will join the Optical Communications Group (GTO) in the Communications and Electronics Department, which features nine faculty members and a state-of-the-art laboratory. The group’s research covers photonics, high-speed fiber-optic transmission, quantum photonics, photonic devices, optical networks, and fiber sensors. The scientific challenge addressed by this project is the nonlinear nature of optical fiber, which limits information rates in conventional transmission methods. The project aims to establish information-theoretic limits for optical fiber and develop neural network-based communication algorithms that approach these limits. Responsibilities include conducting and communicating research, contributing to student supervision and teaching, preparing project reports for the European Commission, and enhancing the reputation of Télécom Paris and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related fields, with expertise in information theory, digital communication, signal processing, applied mathematics (especially nonlinear dispersive PDEs), neural networks, optical fiber communication, or photonics. The position offers a dynamic and accessible work environment near Paris, with benefits such as 49 days annual leave, flexible hours, telecommuting options, 75% public transport reimbursement, and access to sports facilities, catering, and staff associations. The contract is for 12 months, with possible extension upon positive review. Applications should include a cover letter, CV with publication list, and contact details for two referees. The recruitment process is inclusive and open to individuals with disabilities. For scientific inquiries, contact Dr. Mansoor Yousefi (yousefi@telecom-paris.fr); for administrative questions, contact Hamidou YAYA KONE (hamidou.kone@telecom-paris.fr). Apply via the online portal before January 30, 2026.
