About this position

Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the interdisciplinary project 'Knowledge making in the era of Artificial Intelligence: the social regulation of writing for publication processes and products.' This research, funded by the Swedish Research Council, explores how generative AI tools are reshaping academic writing, publication processes, and the social regulation of scientific communication. The project investigates the impact of AI on self-regulation, co-regulation, and socially shared regulation during writing, as well as the influence of AI-assisted writing on rhetorical conventions, linguistic diversity, and homogenization in published research.

The successful candidate will join the Division for Language and Communication at the Department of Communication and Learning in Science, becoming a member of the graduate school Communication and Learning in STEM. The division’s research sits at the intersection of higher education pedagogy, communication pedagogy, applied linguistics, and diversity and internationalisation studies. The postdoc will work across two research themes: Digital Learning and Teaching, and Writing in doctoral education, scientific writing, and science communication. The environment offers strong opportunities for collaboration and networking, both within Chalmers and through national and international research networks.

Key responsibilities include co-leading longitudinal data collection with early career researchers, managing multimodal process data (keystroke logging, screen capture, interviews, text drafts), conducting micro-ethnographic and qualitative analyses of writing regulation processes, supporting corpus work (compiling, documenting, and analyzing academic texts), and collaborating in interpretation and theorization with the project team. The postdoc will contribute to peer-reviewed journal articles, conference presentations, project reports, and dissemination materials.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as applied linguistics, educational psychology, computational linguistics, psychology/cognitive science with a focus on writing, or educational sciences. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, and an interest in multimodal and/or longitudinal research designs. Additional proficiency in Swedish or other languages is an asset. The position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Physical presence in Sweden is required throughout the employment, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.

The position is a full-time, temporary employment for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment, employee benefits, and support for international staff, including Swedish language courses. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and actively supports diversity through initiatives such as the GENIE project. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, with a starting date in August 2026.

To apply, submit your application via the online form, attaching all required documents in English as PDF files. Incomplete or emailed applications will not be considered. For questions, contact Dr. Raffaella Negretti ([email protected]) or Dr. Baraa Khuder ([email protected]).
