About this position

The University of Graz invites applications for a PostDoc position in Quantum Gravity within the Department of Physics. This opportunity is designed for researchers with a strong background in theoretical physics, particularly those specializing in quantum gravity, renormalization group methods, or effective field theory. The successful candidate will join the quantum gravity group, contributing to its scientific goals through independent research, participation in seminars, and development of new research directions aligned with the group’s core themes.

Responsibilities include carrying out research projects, engaging in joint seminars and research meetings, mentoring and supervising students, and participating in teaching activities as required by university regulations. The position also involves active engagement in the broader academic life of the Graz Physics Department, fostering a collaborative and vibrant research environment.

Applicants must hold a Doctorate/PhD in Theoretical Physics or a closely related field. Prior postdoctoral and/or co-supervision experience is highly desirable, and excellent English communication skills are essential. Candidates should demonstrate an independent and goal-oriented approach to scientific work and enjoy interacting with students.

The position offers a temporary contract for up to six years, with an annual gross salary of at least €70,200.20 for full-time employment. Overpayment based on qualifications and experience is possible. Internal continuing education programs and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities are also available.

To apply, candidates must submit a motivation letter (approx. 1 page), a research statement (max 5 pages excluding references), curriculum vitae, publication list, and at least three reference letters. Applications are accepted exclusively via the university’s web-based applicant tool. The University of Graz encourages qualified women and persons with disabilities to apply, and women with equal qualifications are given priority in the event of underrepresentation.

For further information or questions, applicants may contact Professor Alessia Platania. The application deadline is April 28, 2026. Join the University of Graz and contribute to future-oriented research in quantum gravity!
