About this position
This postdoctoral opportunity at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) offers two positions focused on the development of multifunctional bio-sourced hydrogels for agricultural applications. The research is conducted at the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMaT-RC) in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi. The project aims to convert locally abundant biomass into high-value components and integrate these with fertilizers and biobased additives to produce advanced hydrogels through sustainable pathways.
Successful candidates will engage in hydrogel formulation, (bio)polymer processing, and the development of porous materials, including their design, fabrication, and characterization. The role requires familiarity with analytical, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques, and involves rigorous testing to ensure the reliability and robustness of the designed systems. Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of chemists, polymer specialists, and engineers is central to the project, as is maintaining detailed experimental records and contributing to technical reports, research papers, and conference presentations.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in physical chemical and analytical chemistry, chemistry, polymer science, materials science and engineering, or related fields. Essential skills include hands-on experience in hydrogel and polymer processing, strong organizational abilities, initiative, self-motivation, and excellent communication skills in English. Experience supervising students and willingness to travel to the United States for short assignments are preferred.
UM6P is a leading institution in Morocco, dedicated to advancing applied research and innovation for Morocco and the African continent. The SusMaT-RC is a multidisciplinary center focused on biobased products and materials, utilizing biotechnological, physical, and chemical conversion strategies to address technological challenges and support the transition to a green and circular economy.
To apply, candidates should submit a CV, two letters of recommendation, and a one-page statement outlining their relevant skills and motivation. Applications are reviewed immediately due to project urgency. For more information and to apply, visit the provided application link.
