About this position

The Majithia Lab at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine is recruiting NIH-funded postdoctoral fellows to advance research in the genetic and functional biology of insulin resistance and metabolic disease. The lab focuses on integrating genetic, genomic, and clinical investigations to identify and therapeutically target the molecular drivers of insulin resistance, aiming to prevent diabetes and its complications.

There are two main postdoctoral tracks available:

  • Functional Genomics Postdoc: This role involves CRISPR/perturbation screens (including single-cell approaches), work with adipocyte and hepatocyte models, and transcriptomics. The research aims to translate human genetic signals into mechanistic understanding and physiological insights.
  • In Vivo Functional Genomics Postdoc: This position focuses on mouse models, metabolic phenotyping, in vivo perturbation and functional validation, and multi-omic data integration. Candidates will use barcoded, tissue-tropic AAV/CRISPR libraries to interrogate gene function in various tissues, with deep molecular and physiological readouts.

Applicants should have a PhD (or MD/PhD) in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Systems Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field. Required skills include molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR screening, single-cell profiling, and expertise in metabolic cell biology. For in vivo roles, experience with mouse genetics, AAV injection, tissue phenotyping, and metabolic assays is essential. A strong publication record and excellent communication and teamwork skills are expected. Preferred qualifications include experience with stem cell culture, high-throughput screening techniques (CROP-seq, Perturb-seq), human genetics/GWAS, and data analysis in R/Python.
