The UCSF NeuroAI Lab, directed by Assistant Professor Pedro Pinheiro-Chagas at the University of California, San Francisco, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join a cutting-edge research project at the intersection of artificial intelligence, neuroscience, and clinical care. The primary focus is on designing and evaluating AI voice agents to support the diagnosis and care of neurodegenerative diseases, with an initial emphasis on adapting AI systems to administer the Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR®) for Alzheimer’s disease. This project is co-led with Dr. Rachel L. Nosheny (UCSF Brain Health Registry) and Dr. Michael W. Weiner (ADNI), offering a highly collaborative environment that bridges AI, clinical neurology, and psychometrics.

The NeuroAI Lab combines generative AI and traditional machine learning with multimodal clinical data to develop human-centered AI systems for healthcare. Research areas include cognitive neuroscience, symbolic cognition, neuroimaging, psychophysics, and neuropsychology, with a strong emphasis on model interpretability, scientific rigor, and data security. The lab is based at the UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center and is affiliated with the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute, Center for Intelligent Imaging, and UCSF Dyslexia Center.

Ideal candidates will have strong expertise in machine learning, generative AI, and Python programming, with experience in natural language processing or large language models. Familiarity with clinical or cognitive datasets is preferred. Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in computer science, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
