About this position

Calico Life Sciences, in collaboration with Stanford University School of Medicine, is offering a fully funded postdoctoral position in the lab of Principal Investigator Oliver Hahn. The research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of brain aging, particularly the role of immune cells in the aging brain, and explores whether these processes can be reversed. The lab has developed innovative in vivo and in vitro systems to study how young immune cells behave in aged brain environments, with recent findings showing rapid aging of young cells in old brains. The research environment is highly collaborative, with direct mentorship, scientific ownership, and access to state-of-the-art resources rivaling top academic labs.

Research in the Hahn Lab leverages advanced technologies such as genome-wide CRISPR screens, Perturb-seq, Cell Painting, automation, live cell imaging-based sorting, microfluidic droplet generators, small animal MRI, and sophisticated two-photon and Ca²⁺-imaging setups. The lab is also at the forefront of integrating AI and data science tools to accelerate discovery and maximize the value of generated data. Collaborations span across Calico and leading academic institutions, including Stanford, Harvard, and the Broad Institute, with access to large-scale human data through the UK Biobank.

The ideal candidate is deeply curious about brain aging, eager to develop as an independent scientific leader, and open to learning new experimental and computational techniques. No prior neuroscience background is required, and applicants from diverse scientific backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time, onsite in the Bay Area, and offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of academic and industry research networks in aging and neuroimmunology.

To apply, candidates should submit their application via the Calico Life Sciences careers page under the relevant job title. All applications are personally reviewed by Dr. Hahn. For more information, visit the provided links.
