Description

Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Assistant position in Early Modern Architectural Drawing, focusing on the critical edition of Francesco di Giorgio’s Opusculum de architectura (c. 1470). This six-month, part-time (50%) contract is based in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Architectuur en Stedenbouw. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of a scholarly edition of this seminal architectural treatise, including reviewing, writing, and editing catalogue entries on manuscript copies (c. 1500–1600), and conducting primary and secondary source research in libraries and archives in Florence and Siena. The role requires strong skills in fifteenth- and sixteenth-century Italian paleography, codicology, and the material analysis of drawings on paper and parchment. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in early modern art and architectural history, with a focus on central Italy, and demonstrate expertise in translation (Italian-English; Latin-English). General IT proficiency (Word, Microsoft Drive, etc.), collaborative skills, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. The position also requires willingness and ability to travel for research purposes.
