About this position
The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Dr. Jacelyn Rice-Boayue’s Research Group. This position focuses on advancing predictive contaminant risk assessment, including PFAS and DBP precursors, and investigating the environmental and anthropogenic drivers that influence contaminant occurrence and transport in surface waters used for drinking water. The research will utilize field-based measurements, advanced analytical chemistry, and hyperspectral and geospatial analyses to characterize contaminant behavior, source contributions, and fate and transport dynamics.
The postdoctoral researcher will lead interdisciplinary research projects, coordinate field and laboratory studies, analyze data, prepare manuscripts and conference presentations, contribute to grant proposals, and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers in laboratory, field, and environmental data analysis methods. Additional responsibilities include supporting research planning and coordination, and communicating research results to both academic audiences and water sector stakeholders.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, water resources, chemical engineering, or a closely related field. Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams, are required. Preferred qualifications include laboratory experience quantifying contaminants in water, fieldwork in hydrology or water quality, expertise in modeling contaminant fate and transport, and proficiency in scientific computing and programming (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB). Experience with statistical, geospatial, and remote sensing analyses, including hyperspectral imaging and machine learning, is highly desirable. Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate students is also preferred.
The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension, and salary will be commensurate with experience. The position is based at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Interested applicants should email Dr. Jacelyn Rice-Boayue with a single PDF containing a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references. Please use the subject line 'RB Lab Postdoc Application [Your Name]'. Review of applications will begin February 9th and will continue until the position is filled.
