About this position

The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adiunkt) position in the Department of Medical Physics at the Cyclotron Centre Bronowice (CCB). This full-time, research-only position focuses on advanced topics in medical physics, with a particular emphasis on proton therapy, dosimetry, and Monte Carlo simulation methods.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic research and development laboratory, contributing to cutting-edge projects in proton radiotherapy. Key responsibilities include conducting research in proton therapy physics, optimizing irradiation techniques, developing and applying Monte Carlo simulation tools for radiation transport studies, analyzing dose distributions, and validating new dosimetry methods. The role also involves disseminating research results through publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at seminars and international conferences. The candidate will be expected to actively seek external funding for research projects.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in physical sciences or a related discipline. Essential qualifications include a strong publication record in prestigious international journals, expertise in medical physics (especially proton therapy), practical experience with Monte Carlo simulations, and proficiency in experimental data analysis and scientific research equipment. Teamwork skills and excellent command of spoken and written English are required. Experience in R&D projects and a publication record in medical physics and proton therapy are advantageous. Candidates must contact the head of the ZFM Department, Dr. hab. Renata Kopeć, prof IFJ PAN, early in the process and may be asked to deliver a seminar prior to application. Two referee recommendations are required.

The position offers a fixed-term contract of up to 33 months, with a monthly gross salary of PLN 7,250 (for PhD holders) or PLN 8,050 (for those with habilitation), plus possible additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and support under the Company Social Benefits Fund. The role comes with no teaching obligations, 36 days of annual leave, access to state-of-the-art research facilities, and opportunities for collaboration with leading experts and research institutes.

Applications must be submitted by email to [email protected] by May 4th, 2026, with all documents preferably in a single PDF, .zip, or .rar file. Referee recommendations should be sent directly by the referees to the same email address. For detailed application requirements and the recruitment process, refer to the official terms and conditions document. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held between June 9th and June 11th, 2026, and the competition will conclude by June 22nd, 2026.
