About this position

The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adiunkt) position in the Department of Medical Physics, Cyclotron Centre Bronowice (CCB), Krakow, Poland. This full-time research role focuses on radiobiology and proton therapy, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge R&D projects in medical physics.

The successful candidate will conduct research in radiobiology, with a particular emphasis on the biological mechanisms of cellular response to ionizing radiation. Responsibilities include developing and validating radiobiological and pharmacological models to advance new proton therapy methods, collaborating with medical physicists and biologists in translational studies, and disseminating research results through publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at international conferences. The position also requires active participation in applying for external research funding.

Applicants must hold a PhD in physics, biology, pharmaceutical sciences, or related fields, and demonstrate scientific achievements through publications in prestigious international journals. Essential qualifications include knowledge of cellular responses to ionizing radiation, experience with scientific research equipment and experimental data analysis (especially in radiobiology), teamwork skills, and proficiency in English. Laboratory experience (e.g., cell cultures, cytotoxicity assays, molecular analyses), a publication record in radiobiology or related disciplines, and experience in research projects are advantageous.

The position offers a fixed-term contract of up to 33 months, with a monthly gross salary of PLN 7,250 (PhD) or PLN 8,050 (habilitation), plus potential additional benefits such as long-service awards, annual bonuses, and support under the Company Social Benefits Fund. The role is research-focused with no teaching obligations, and provides access to state-of-the-art facilities, including computer farms, cloud computing infrastructure, and opportunities for collaboration with leading experts and research institutes.

Applications must be submitted by May 4th, 2026, via email to [email protected], with all documents preferably in a single PDF, .zip, or .rar file. Candidates are required to contact the head of the ZFM Department, Prof. Renata Kopeć, early in the process and may be asked to deliver a seminar prior to application. Referees should send their recommendations directly to [email protected] by the deadline. Detailed requirements and the list of necessary documents are available in the official recruitment terms and conditions.
