About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity at the University of Zurich in the Institute for Slavic and Eastern European Studies, focused on contemporary Eastern European history, economic history, political economy, and the history of energy and infrastructure.

The position is affiliated with the Professorship for Modern Eastern European Studies and is designed for a scholar who will pursue independent research while contributing to the development of a major research proposal at the ERC/SNSF level. The successful candidate will also help with literature reviews, research design, project meetings, and workshops, and will be integrated into an international and interdisciplinary academic network.

Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in economic history, history, political economy, or a related field; strong interest or expertise in Eastern European history; excellent English (spoken and written); ability to work independently and collaboratively; familiarity with archival research in Eastern Europe; and language skills such as Russian or other Eastern European languages are an asset. Experience in historical data analysis is also welcomed.

Appointment details: 60–80% employment, initially for 12 months, with the possibility of extension up to 4–5 years depending on external funding. The start date is 1 July 2026 or by arrangement.

Funding details
