About this position

The Singapore-ETH Centre, established by ETH Zurich and Singapore’s National Research Foundation, is a leading hub for interdisciplinary research addressing global challenges in urban sustainability, resilience, and health. As ETH Zurich's only research centre outside Switzerland, it fosters collaboration across diverse disciplines and institutions, including the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.

This postdoctoral position is part of the Future Health Technologies (FHT2) programme, which unites psychologists, neuroscientists, computer scientists, engineers, and clinicians to develop next-generation digital health solutions. The successful candidate will join the 'Monitoring and Supporting Cognitive Health in the Community' project, focusing on the development and deployment of an AI-powered mobile platform to assess, monitor, and support cognitive health during real-world navigation. The platform integrates cognitive and navigation assessments, smartphone sensor data, and AI-driven conversational agents to detect early signs of cognitive impairment, deliver personalised support, and promote ageing in place. The project is closely aligned with Singapore’s Healthier SG and Action Plan for Successful Ageing, with clear translational pathways through partnerships with local organisations.

The postdoctoral researcher will play a central role in scientific leadership, coordination, and execution of the project. Responsibilities include leading empirical studies in community and clinical settings, coordinating data collection and analysis across behavioural, cognitive, sensor-based, and clinical modalities, and contributing to the iterative development and validation of the mobile platform. The role also involves preparing ethics applications, research collaboration agreements, study protocols, and regulatory documentation, as well as liaising with clinicians, community partners, and government-linked organisations. The postdoc will supervise and mentor PhD students, Master’s students, and research assistants, and participate actively in manuscript preparation, conference presentations, and grant reporting.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Psychology or a closely related discipline (Cognitive Neuroscience, Health Sciences, Computer/Data Science, or Health Technologies) and demonstrate strong expertise in empirical research, quantitative methods, and data-driven analysis. Good programming skills and experience in human-computer interaction are expected. Experience with mobile technologies, digital health tools, or AI-enabled platforms is highly desirable, especially in spatial cognition, navigation, or related cognitive domains. Prior exposure to interdisciplinary research environments involving psychology, neuroscience, or clinical applications is valued. Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, scientific independence, and the capacity to coordinate activities across multiple teams and institutions are essential. Excellent written and spoken English is required; ability to speak multiple languages in the context of Singapore is highly desirable.

The Singapore-ETH Centre offers a diverse and inclusive workplace, accredited with multiple standards for fair and progressive employment practices. Benefits include comprehensive healthcare insurance, annual dental benefits, 25 days of annual leave, 1 day of birthday leave, flexible hybrid work arrangement (up to 2 days per week from home), and abundant networking opportunities. The centre is committed to supporting physical and mental wellness and provides a positive and inclusive working environment.

Applications must be submitted online via the ETH Zurich application portal, including a cover letter, CV with references, and university transcripts. For further information, contact Professor Dr. Victor Roger Schinazi at [email protected]. ETH Zurich is renowned for its excellence in science and technology, diversity, and sustainability, and offers an inspiring environment for independent thinking and research.
