About this position

Cornell University’s Automation and Robotics Lab, led by Dr. Lirong Xiang, is recruiting fully funded PhD students for Fall 2026. The research focuses on agricultural robotics, automation, AI, computer vision, machine learning, and intelligent system design, aiming to transform agriculture through advanced technologies.

What's required

Applicants must have earned or expect to earn by Fall 2026 a B.S. or M.S. in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related fields. Required qualifications include demonstrated interest or experience in robotics, automation, AI, or computer vision; proficiency in C++, Python, and familiarity with ROS; strong written and oral communication skills in English; and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experience in mechanical or electrical system design and prior research experience are considered a plus. Women, underrepresented minorities, and international students are highly encouraged to apply.
