PhD Position in Structural Biochemistry of Host-Virus Interactions

This fully funded PhD position is offered for three years, with the possibility of extension, in the Analytical Biochemistry group led by Professor Dr. Andreas Schlundt at the University of Greifswald, Germany. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing team within the Institute of Biochemistry, located in the picturesque and affordable university city of Greifswald on the Baltic Sea. The research focuses on the structural and biochemical analysis of protein-nucleic acid complexes, particularly those involved in gene regulation at the host-virus interface. Central methodologies include solution NMR, crystallography, and SAXS, complemented by a broad spectrum of biochemical and biophysical techniques. The project aims to investigate the remodeling of DNA and RNA G-quadruplex structures by multi-ZnF-proteins, employing an interdisciplinary approach and benefiting from strong collaborations within a well-established research infrastructure and neighboring departments, including one of Germany’s leading university hospitals. The position is open from January 1, 2026, or as soon as possible, and offers remuneration according to salary grade 13 TV-L (65%, collective agreement of the federal states). Applicants should have a university degree (Master's or equivalent) in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or a related field, with experience in structural biology methods such as NMR, crystallography, or SAXS considered advantageous. The University of Greifswald provides numerous opportunities for professional development, networking, and independence. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, certificates, and contact details of at least two references, submitted as a single PDF file by email or via the university job portal. Severely disabled persons with equal qualifications will be given preferential consideration.
