PhD & Postdoc Grant Writing Course – Aarhus University – Spring 2026
The Cardiovascular Network at Aarhus University is offering a comprehensive 5 ECTS PhD and postdoc course in grant writing for Spring 2026. This blended learning program is designed for junior researchers, including PhD students and postdocs, who aim to strengthen their research impact and secure funding for their projects. The course is led by Emma Börgeson and Christian Aalkjær, with a feedback panel of experienced researchers from Aarhus University.
Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of grant proposal structures, review processes, effective communication, rationale and impact statements, research design and methodology (including ethical considerations), budgeting, financial statements, and the importance of networking and collaboration. The course also emphasizes professional development and progression towards independence in the research community.
Eligibility requires a university degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, or a Master’s degree in other fields, and/or postgraduate research fellows (PhD students and research-year medical students). Applicants must submit a motivation letter and CV, and both the applicant and their supervisor must be available for a pre-interview and subsequent meetings.
The course is free for PhD students from Aarhus University, partner universities of the Nordoc collaboration, and institutions in the open market agreement for PhD courses. Others may pay a fee of 6,000 DKK. No stipend is provided, as this is a training opportunity rather than a funded position.
Course activities span six months, including proposal drafting, feedback sessions, workshops, and peer review. Key dates include the application deadline (February 1, 2026), course start (March 3, 2026), grant writing workshop (March 17, 2026), and final feedback session (June 9, 2026). Targeted grant calls include fellowships from the Danish Diabetes and Endocrine Academy, Danish Cardiovascular Academy, Marie Curie, Novo Nordisk Foundation, Lundbeck Foundation, and Independent Research Fund Denmark.
To apply, submit your motivation letter and CV by the deadline, attend the pre-interview, and follow further instructions for proposal submission and course participation. For more details, visit the course catalog and related links provided.
