PhD and Postdoc Positions in Plant Photobiology and Environmental Responses at University of Lausanne

The University of Lausanne’s Center for Integrative Genomics is offering both PhD and postdoctoral positions in the laboratory of Professor Christian Fankhauser. The research focuses on plant photobiology and the molecular mechanisms underlying plant responses to environmental cues, particularly light and temperature. The Fankhauser lab investigates how plants adapt to suboptimal light conditions and elevated temperatures, with projects involving molecular genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, and advanced genomics techniques. The postdoctoral position is part of a Swiss National Science Foundation–funded project examining the function and regulation of Phytochrome Interacting Factors in response to high plant density and warmer climates. The successful candidate will utilize genome-wide transcriptional analyses, molecular genetics, and biochemistry to understand how environmental changes regulate plant morphology. The position offers opportunities for teaching, mentoring, and professional development in a collaborative, international research environment equipped with state-of-the-art core facilities. The PhD position centers on deciphering the molecular mechanisms that govern plant growth responses to changes in light and temperature. The project will combine molecular genetics, plant photobiology, cell biology, microscopy, and biochemical approaches. The candidate will also gain teaching and mentoring experience and benefit from a supportive, multicultural academic environment. Applicants for the PhD position must hold a Master’s degree in biology or a related field, demonstrate strong analytical and reasoning skills, and have a background in plant biology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, or computational/statistical analysis. For the postdoc position, a PhD in biology or a related discipline, a strong publication record, and proficiency in English are required. Experience in genome-wide transcriptional regulation and computational analysis is advantageous. Both positions are fully funded, with the postdoc position offering a 1-year contract renewable up to 3 years, and the PhD position a 1-year contract renewable for up to 5 years. The University of Lausanne provides competitive salaries and benefits, as well as a commitment to equality, diversity, and work-life balance. The application deadlines are March 27, 2026 for the PhD position and April 11, 2026 for the postdoc position. Applications must be submitted online as a single PDF including a cover letter, CV, degree certificates, publication list (for postdoc), and contact details for referees. For more information, visit the Fankhauser lab webpage or contact Prof. Christian Fankhauser at [email protected].
