Professor in Practice Position in Civil and Architectural Engineering (Building Systems, HVAC) at University of Miami

The University of Miami’s College of Engineering is seeking applications for a Professor in Practice (all ranks) in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering. This full-time, non-tenure track faculty position is focused on building systems, including HVAC, thermal, and environmental systems, with a strong emphasis on integrating real-world engineering practice into undergraduate education. The successful candidate will lead undergraduate teaching, including senior design and capstone courses, and contribute to curriculum development, educational research, and strategic teaching initiatives such as active learning and AI literacy. Applicants must hold BS, MS, and PhD degrees in civil or architectural engineering or a closely related field, and possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license or be able to obtain one within two years. Preferred candidates will have at least three years of industry and/or engineering education experience, with demonstrated expertise in thermal, hydraulic, and environmental systems in building sciences, especially HVAC and Building Environmental Systems. Strong communication, leadership, and student motivation skills are essential. The role also involves departmental and university service, mentoring student organizations, and participating in cross-disciplinary collaboration. The position is based at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, and offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of engineers equipped to address building performance and sustainability challenges.
